We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our nonprofit organization in Salinas, California. In this role, you will be responsible for managing financial operations, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with grant agreements and regulatory standards. This position is essential to maintaining accurate financial records and contributing to the organization's overall fiscal health.
Responsibilities :
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and ensure timely completion of monthly financial closings.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including vendor payments, invoicing, and collections.
- Prepare detailed financial reports and provide insightful data analysis to support leadership decision-making.
- Collaborate with auditors by organizing and providing essential documentation for annual audit processes.
- Monitor grant funding allocations and expenses to ensure compliance with grant agreements and reporting requirements.
- Assist grant managers in forecasting and tracking spending to align with approved budgets.
- Implement and uphold financial policies and internal controls to meet nonprofit accounting standards.
- Communicate with program managers and development teams to support financial planning for fundraising and grant applications.
- Provide financial insights and presentations for executive leadership and board-level meetings.
- Ensure adherence to nonprofit compliance standards, including Uniform Guidance and other federal funding regulations.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a preference for experience in nonprofit organizations.Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Blackbaud, as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.Familiarity with grant accounting, compliance monitoring, and audit preparation processes.Strong attention to detail, organizational capabilities, and analytical skills.Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the nonprofit sector.
