Job Description & Requirements Specialty : Labor and Delivery Discipline : RN Start Date : 10 / 20 / 2025 Duration : 16 weeks 36 hours per week Shift : 12 hours, nights Employment Type : Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in an acute care setting, requiring at least 1 year of L&D and MedSurg experience and current WA or compact RN license. Responsibilities Work in an acute care hospital setting on the Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit Unit consists of 2 L&D rooms, with postpartum care provided in either L&D or acute care rooms Expected annual birth volume ranges from 50-60 deliveries Patients include those with diabetes, GDM, advanced maternal age, and other typical L&D diagnoses, but high-risk cases are referred out Generally, 1 : 1 nurse to patient ratios, with possible 1 : 2 assignment; usually only one OB nurse on shift RNs also required to float to Acute MedSurg when there are no OB patients Shifts are 12 hours, either 6a-6 : 30p or 6p-6 : 30a, with a set schedule often blocked together Typically required to work every other weekend, with potential holiday coverage if needed No dedicated nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit; RNs handle patient monitoring and cares C-Sections take place in the OR with PACU recovery; OB nurses provide newborn care but do not circulate in OR EMR used is Cerner Community Works; EFM system is Fetal Link RNs are expected to provide complete patient care throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum periods Must recover newborns after C-sections and manage both mother and infant care as needed Equipment includes nasal cannula and high-flow nasal oxygen for newborns when necessary No specific scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professional Standard orientation includes one day on the unit Family Practice OBs are available in the clinic during the day and on-call after hours; anesthesia is on-call No Respiratory Therapy in-house; RNs expected to monitor and manage assigned patients First-time travelers are not excluded Requirements Active WA or compact RN license required Minimum 1 year of recent L&D and MedSurg nursing experience Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, NRP, and intermediate C-EFM (advanced preferred) Ability to titrate drips, including insulin and magnesium Experience monitoring fetal heart rates and caring for antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum patients Competency with Cerner Community Works EMR preferred Must be able to work independently, as only one OB nurse is typically staffed per shift Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-619755.
