As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Float Pool, you will deliver direct patient care by applying the nursing process and demonstrating clinical competence aligned with professional nursing standards. Key Responsibilities Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain a secure care environment. Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and educate patients and families to support positive health outcomes. Conduct ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance quality, and ensure safety, communicating findings effectively to the healthcare team. Collaborate closely with supervising RNs or Shift Managers to meet patient needs and maintain high standards of care. Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring data to support clinical decisions and compliance with quality measures. Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability within the care environment. Engage patients and families with timely communication and education to improve the overall patient experience. Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to develop professional skills. Education Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program is required. Experience One year of practical nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory. Licenses and Certifications Current LPN license valid in the state or through Compact Licensure. Graduate Practical Nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Physical and Mental Requirements This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
