Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Computer Operator IV to join our team and to oversee mission-critical computer systems, networks, and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and availability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate the monitoring and control of mission-critical computer systems, networks, and peripheral equipment to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operations.
- Develop and implement maintenance plans, including software updates, system backups, hardware checks, performance tuning, and capacity planning, following industry best practices.
- Lead identification, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex operational issues, system errors, and hardware / software malfunctions, coordinating with technical support teams, vendors, and stakeholders to implement solutions.
- Establish and enforce data security and integrity protocols, including data backup, recovery, access controls, and regulatory / compliance measures.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation of system operations, maintenance activities, incidents, performance metrics, and configurations.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a team of computer operators and support staff, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with IT professionals, system administrators, and stakeholders to optimize system performance, implement enhancements, and plan for future requirements and upgrades.
- Stay up-to-date with technologies, tools, and best practices in computer operations and maintenance; drive adoption of new processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Participate in project planning and implementation activities related to system upgrades, migrations, or new deployments, ensuring successful execution and readiness.
- Develop and manage budgets, resource allocations, and operational plans for the computer operations team and infrastructure.
Requirements
Education : Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Minimum of 8 years of experience in computer operations, system administration, or related IT role, with at least 4 years in a supervisory / management capacity.Ability to adapt to nonstandard problems requiring extensive operator intervention and judgment.Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; ability to deviate from standard procedures as needed to resolve issues.Typically, completed work is submitted to users without supervisory review.Relevant certifications in computer operations, system administration, project management, or related areas (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, PMP).Extensive expertise in computer systems, networks, and peripheral equipment; experience with operating systems, administration tools, and automation frameworks.Expert-level troubleshooting and proactive mitigation skills.Proficiency in scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) and automation tools; familiarity with DevOps practices.Understanding of data backup / recovery, data security, access control, and regulatory compliance.Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to document procedures and train others; effective with stakeholders at all levels.Proven leadership and mentoring abilities; capable of managing a team in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure.Desired Skills and Competencies
Experience in a government or military IT environment with knowledge of regulations and security protocols.Knowledge of virtualization, cloud, containerization, and modern infrastructure architectures.Project management expertise for system implementation and migration projects.Risk assessment, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity capabilities.Scripting and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef); familiarity with infrastructure as code.Budgeting and operational planning skills to optimize IT infrastructure costs.Equal Employment Opportunity
