Plant Manager – Structural Steel Fabricator (Houston, TX)
A leading structural steel fabricator is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to oversee daily shop operations and ensure safe, efficient, high-quality production. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of large-scale steel fabrication, proven managerial skills, and the ability to drive performance across teams and processes. A CWI certification is a plus but not required.
The Plant Manager will oversee shop personnel, production flow, equipment, scheduling, quality, and coordination with project and engineering teams. Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily fabrication shop operations and workflow
Lead and manage shop supervisors, welders, fitters, and production teams
Ensure production meets quality, safety, and schedule requirements
Coordinate with engineering, project management, and field teams
Monitor fabrication progress, manpower needs, and equipment utilization
Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization
Review drawings, fabrication requirements, and material needs
Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused facility
Assist with hiring, training, and performance management
Track productivity, quality metrics, and shop KPIs
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in large structural steel fabrication
Proven leadership and shop management experience
Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding, cutting, and material handling
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and shop details
Knowledge of quality, safety, and production best practices
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Experience managing large teams in a high-volume fabrication environment
Preferred
Background in both structural steel fabrication and heavy industrial work
Familiarity with AISC standards and fabrication workflows
CWI certification (a plus, not required)
Experience implementing process improvements or lean manufacturing practices
Compensation & Benefits
$85,000 – $110,000 (DOE)
