Job Summary
The Health Professions Education Specialist 2 is a professional in the administration and management of medical education programs. The HPES 2 applies acquired job skills and knowledge of policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments / projects / tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action to effectively administer the residency, fellowship and medical student program in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The HPES 2 utilizes knowledge of medical education to analyze problems and issues of diverse scope and recommends solutions. HPES 2 is expected to formulate strategies to administer policies, processes, and resources in coordination with the program director. The HPES 2 applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners, and coordinates program operations, which include teaching and learning activities, projects related to the program administration, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, monitoring regulatory compliance, and supporting program accreditation. The incumbent coordinates implementation of professional health educational activities, which may include program competencies, curriculum, and exams.

Department Overview
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is a large, diverse, multi-site department whose mission is to be scientific leaders who promote excellence through clinical diagnostics, next generation innovation, collaborative discovery and world class education in service to all communities. UC Davis is leading the way in diagnosing, treating, and ultimately preventing disease. Pathology brings these tools together with education and patient care to transform the field. This position sets the highest standards for professionalism and administrative competency as the department continues a period of growth and restructuring. The department has over $12 million in external research funding which supports multi-disciplinary research in neuroscience, cancer, computational pathology, and healthcare delivery science, and co-leads the Center for Diagnostic Innovation. Education is provided at many different levels, including highly ranked required courses and electives for medical students, 16-person residency program, 7 fellowships, and participation in graduate programs. Departmental academic operations are conducted within central administrative offices in various locations at the Medical Center in Sacramento and in research space on both the Sacramento and Davis campuses.
Department Specific Job Scope
This position will work as a member of a team providing support for residents, fellows, observers, visiting residents, undergraduate and research interns, and rotating medical students. This team directly supports the Vice-Chair, Residency Program Director and Medical Education Leaders in all resident, fellow and medical student related actions. The incumbent will have responsibilities for supporting the annual recruitment process. Will participate in the development and planning of curriculum for resident, fellow and medical student education. Responsible for hospital-wide Residency Management System that includes schedules, evaluations, duty hours, and other management modules. Uses resources and systems in consultation with Leadership to assure an effective and compliant educational experience for residents, fellows and medical students. The incumbent acts as a liaison between stakeholders and responds to a wide variety of inquiries through interactions with faculty and administration, including the Office of the Dean, Hospital Finance / Administration, and multiple outside accreditation boards. Will be expected to facilitate the resident, fellow and medical student educational activities at multiple learning locations. Additionally, this position coordinates outside UC rotation electives. Will participate in ongoing education through staff development and other areas to stay abreast of current policy and procedure changes related to efficient workflow related with the Department's education program. Will coordinate with leadership and accreditation agencies to ensure compliance. The incumbent will also be responsible for other academic needs such as privileging / credentialing for residents and fellows and managing CME programs within the department. The incumbent will be responsible for the programs ensuring that all documents are complete, accurate, and timely to meet the required deadlines. Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners. Keeps management appraised of overall project performance.
