Description : San Diego Youth Services JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Accounting Clerk II

San Diego Youth Services seeks an Accounting Clerk II in the Fiscal Department to be based in San Diego. This is a full-time & non-exempt position reporting to the Controller.

San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 780,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

We aim to :

1.Meet the basic needs of youth. Hunger, poverty and youth homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more vital than food and shelter? We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing.

2.Create positive connection. We help youth focus on positive life changes and healthy relationships as part of providing needed resources and services. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system.

3.Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets.

4.Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources.

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION

The Accounting Clerk is responsible for providing accurate and timely support in the areas of accounts payable and general accounting. This position assists in processing vendor payments, reconciling receipts and deposits, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The Accounting Clerk uses Bill.com for electronic payment processing and supports the accounting team during month-end close and audits.

Essential functions include :

1.Perform accounts payable cycle from receiving invoices to issuing payments on approved and authorized purchases.

2.Receive, review, verify vendor invoices, check requests and employee expense reports as assigned, for accuracy, coding, and appropriate approval.

3.Ensure invoices, check requests and employee reimbursements are approved, valid and processed accurately and timely.

4.Assist with monitoring pending approvals and ensuring timely payments.

5.Reconcile credit card expenses and related documentation with bank statements.

6.Process payments via Bill.com, including check, ACH, and virtual card transactions, accurately and timely.

7.Maintain and verify vendor information, including W-9 and tax ID documentation as required by laws and regulations.

8.Resolve questions related to check requests, employee reimbursements and invoice payments, Office Depot, business cards, supplies, and payment status.

9.Manage gift card supporting documentation.

10.Generate annual 1099 forms accurately and mail to individual payee and IRS, timely.

11.Reconcile monthly vendor statements and assist in resolving outstanding balances.

12.Assist in preparing AP-related journal entries and supporting schedules for month-end close.

13.Support the accounting team in providing backup documentation for audits and as requested.

14.File, scan, and organize AP and accounting documents; assist with year-end archiving.

15.Provide administrative support to the accounting team as needed.

16.Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

1.Minimum 2 years of college associate degree; Business or Accounting degree preferred.

2.Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or accounts payable, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

3.Experience with Bill.com and Sage 100 (or similar accounting software) preferred.

4.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize tasks. Ability to work under pressure.

5.Excellent communication and people skills, ability to edit and proofread.

6.Proficient in Excel and Word.

7.Experience in social service agency a plus.

8.Must be able and willing to use their own, properly insured, car for work (mileage reimbursement).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Work is performed in primarily an office setting, sitting or standing (stationary position) for extended periods of time, operating a computer approx. 6-8 hours a day.

2.Occasionally lifts, carries and positions objects and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.

3.The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, to exchange accurate information and make presentations.

Salary Range : $24.00 – 27.00 / hour
