Summary
Hyatt Centric Key West is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our property operations and uphold the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction. As a member of the property’s Leadership Committee, this is a highly visible role with exposure to Senior and Corporate leadership, reporting directly to the General Manager.
Position Summary
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall operation of the Engineering department, including the appearance and working order of the hotel, its systems, infrastructure, and IT function. This role requires a hands‑on leader who can work independently and collaboratively, ensuring the property remains safe, efficient, and visually appealing. This position also oversees and supports the hotel’s IT function, working closely with a remote IT Manager to ensure reliable technology infrastructure and systems that support both guest services and internal operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the hotel’s exterior, parking lot, common areas, and guest room equipment.
- Conduct monthly safety inspections and train staff on safety and emergency procedures.
- Oversee life safety systems and ensure compliance with OSHA, fire, and life safety programs.
- Respond to emergencies and coordinate with corporate maintenance on remodeling and capital projects.
- Troubleshoot and maintain systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
- Drive sustainability and energy‑efficiency initiatives while maintaining Hyatt’s high standards for safety and quality.
- Provide on‑site support and coordination with the remote IT Manager to ensure optimal performance of hotel technology systems.
- Review contracts and negotiate revisions with vendors, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Requisition supplies and materials for maintenance and construction projects.
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to staff and stakeholders.
- Plan, organize, and direct activities related to the maintenance of structures and systems.
- Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking.
- Develop and implement quality control programs.
- Inspect projects for compliance with building and safety codes.
- Collaborate with building code officials, zoning officials, and design committees.
- Manage utility systems and oversee equipment specification and purchasing.
- Maintain communication with Corporate Staff.
- Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures.

Minimum 6 years of progressive hotel or building management experience, preferably with Hyatt.Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with our ownership group and project managers.Degree in Engineering or Facility Management preferred.Proven leadership skills and ability to motivate teams.Strong service‑oriented style with professional presentation skills.Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse backgrounds.High energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to excellence.Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills in English.Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.Experience supporting or managing IT systems and infrastructure preferred.Seniority Level
