Status : Full time or part-time; hourly, non-exempt
Summary : Assist the veterinary team in the wellness clinic, surgery, and with shelter medicine cases. Implement and maintain superior animal health standards in accordance with Animal Protective Association of Missouri policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Monitor health and well-being of the animals and observe patients pre and post op. Report any concerns to the veterinarian.
- Prepare and clean surgery room, sanitize instruments, laundry, and prepare surgery packs.
- Assist with operating anesthesia machine and other equipment.
- Administer oral and injectable medications and fill prescriptions under the direction of the veterinarian.
- Assist veterinarians in the APAs wellness clinic, with surgery, and with shelter medicine procedures. Safely, and following Fear Free procedures, restrain patients for surgery or exams.
- Proficiency in clinical tasks such as IV catheter placement, blood draws, patient monitoring under anesthesia, surgery prep, vaccine administration, x-ray, and euthanasia.
- Assist the veterinarian or RVT during dentals.
- Communicate with pet owners in a professional and positive manner to share preventative health care recommendations, accurately answer questions, and relay information for the veterinarian.
- Clean exam rooms between clients and restock supplies.
- Performs all duties to ensure a positive image and to improve the functioning of the Animal Protective Association of Missouri.

Veterinary Technician Certification or a minimum of 2 years experience in a veterinary clinic or high volume spay / neuter clinic.Friendly, customer service demeanor for internal and external customers.Effective oral and written communication skills.Attention to detail and follow through.Ability to work cooperatively with staff, donors, volunteers and general public.Efficient organizational skills.Ability to work independently and part of a team.Ability to maintain composure and professional conduct during stressful situations.Physical Qualifications
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for periods of five hours.Seniority level
