Manages a team of Engineering Technicians assigning work, defining responsibilities, monitoring team performance and aligning activities to fulfill business objectives, primarily focused on the short term needs of the business. Provides hiring, promotion and disciplinary action recommendations, as well as performance evaluation and feedback for direct reports.

Job Description
Manage a specific group of the Mechanical and Electrical Technicians in the Engineering Department for Columbia City. Group could expand to other engineering support staff. Position reports to the UM US Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering.
Provide leadership that fosters team progress, takes the initiative on challenging assignments, promotes employee development, and creates opportunity for growth across disciplines.
Provide strong engineering and management skills. These duties would include the direction and supervision of mechanical and electrical engineering support tasking for technicians.
Develop and maintain Engineering design and documentation practices. Train user groups in these practices.
Ensure that Engineering Support Team has proper priority and completes tasking per the deadlines provided
Provide proposal estimating for Engineering support efforts.
Analyze and review equipment designs using 3D CAD models or drawings.
Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, or customers on technical specifications, delivery requirements, and quotation parameters.
Provide strong collaboration with the Engineering and Engineering Support Team.
Understand the obligations and liabilities related to the contractual agreements made by the company.
Ensure the technician workspace areas are at an acceptable level of cleanliness for their group
Responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives for the workspace areas for their group
Knowledge of underwater acoustic transducers is a plus
Required skills :
One of the degrees listed below :
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering acceptable
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology also acceptable
2+years' experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering / Technology
Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to
U.S. citizens
Desired skills :
Experience in equipment design with understanding of drafting principles and standards, including GD&T
Proficiency with the following tools :
CAD tools (Solidworks strongly preferred)
Microsoft office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Project)
Good communication and presentation skills; ability to effectively interact with customers and all levels of the management team
Strong team and individual-based problem-solving skills
Strong desire to develop team members within your organization
Experience in other areas including Manufacturing Engineering or Project Management a plus
Experience supervising a small department of engineers / technicians a plus
Experience Creating and Documenting new workflows / processes
Experience working in the defense industry
Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 3+ years of experience within a relevant complex engineering environment and 1 + years leadership experience.
May be required to maintain security clearance.
