Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests, preparing specimens, operating diagnostic equipment, and supporting accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results. The role ensures high-quality testing in accordance with laboratory policies, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Collects, labels, and processes patient specimens including blood, urine, and other body fluids.
- Performs routine laboratory tests such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, and immunology procedures.
- Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory instruments and analyzers according to established protocols.
- Records, verifies, and reports test results with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Follows quality control procedures and participates in proficiency testing.
- Identifies equipment malfunctions or irregular test results and reports timely to supervisor.
- Prepares reagents, solutions, and laboratory supplies as required.
- Adheres to infection control, biosafety, and OSHA guidelines at all times.
- Maintains accurate documentation, logs, and patient records in the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Supports troubleshooting of tests and assists in improving laboratory workflows.
- Ensures a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory work area.
- Collaborates with medical technologists, pathologists, and clinical staff to support efficient lab operations.
- Handles specimens according to chain-of-custody or special protocol requirements when necessary.
