We have an opportunity for a Model Based Systems Engineer to contribute to the development of an integrated rapid ground system critical to national security and to work closely with the Director of Engineering on an Enterprise Ground System.

The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment where they can solve challenging engineering problems, desire to work directly with customers, and guide product development with a systems mindset. The approach to MBSE in the Space Force National Defense mission uses a single digital model as the Authoritative Source of Truth (ASOT) for all vendors across the development lifecycle. The model repository generates engineering documentation (requirements, interface control documents, verification plans, architecture diagrams, and service implementation details) and integrates with spacecraft vendor models to ensure end-to-end interoperability and clear communication across stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide MBSE products, views, reports, and documents supporting the SOW and software development activities.
  • Develop system / subsystem requirements.
  • Define use cases and derive software requirements with traceability to system / subsystem requirements.
  • Define architecture, design structure, and behavior; document internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop test cases with traceability to requirements for verification.
  • Conduct or support technical reviews with prime integrator and customer (e.g., Technical Interchange Meetings, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review).
  • Assist with backlog identification and grooming; define objectives, features, and dependencies.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering, computer science, or an equivalent technical / scientific discipline and 8+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience specifically in a systems engineer role on a U.S. government program.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordinating between program managers, software developers, and other systems engineers.
  • Desired Skills & Experience

  • Product design experience including architecture definition, requirements analysis, use case analysis, UI / UX design, and / or algorithm development.
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with Cameo and automated test frameworks / CI\&CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Agile software development and tools such as Gitlab, Jenkins.
  • Experience with AWS C2S and / or GovCloud.
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance or higher.

    Salary : $123,800 - $206,300 USD

    Compensation and Benefits : The SMX salary determination considers factors such as location, labor categories, experience, skills, education, and certifications. SMX offers a competitive compensation package, learning & development opportunities, and benefits including health insurance, paid leave, and retirement.
