DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in various entry-level technical tasks across all aspects of PENNDOT, including design, construction, and maintenance. It is crucial to provide engineering support to each PennDOT unit while developing a foundational understanding of departmental policies, procedures, organizational roles, and workflows. The training program includes scheduled rotational assignments within Engineering Districts, allowing you to become acquainted with district personnel and processes, as well as to contribute to work projects that align with the overall training goals. Additionally, you will participate in classroom training as directed by the program coordinator.

You will be involved in the technical preparation of various bridge and structural plans, maps, and related drawings, adhering to established methods and procedures while applying drafting and technical skills. The work encompasses a range of structures, including reinforced concrete box culverts, simple span bridges, metal plate culverts, and bridge rehabilitation projects. Mathematical skills in algebra, plane geometry, and trigonometry are essential for calculating plan quantities and executing structural drafting under professional guidance. Additionally, the role includes participating in field inspections for bridge rehabilitation and replacement initiatives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information :

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7 : 00 AM to 3 : 00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
• Telework : You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad-hoc, as approved, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary : Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685 (before taxes).
