Senior Writer FAA Airports Program Support Contract
LCAT : Senior II Writer / Editor (eFAST)
Location : Remote (must reside in the Washington, DC metro area)
Travel : Occasional travel to FAA Headquarters (Washington, DC) as required
Position Summary
The Senior Writer develops, edits, and manages complex written materials for the FAA Airports (APP) program support contract. This role is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and well-organized reports, documentation, and program materials that align with FAA standards, policies, and guidance. The Senior Writer ensures high-quality deliverables across program reporting, AIP Handbook support, NPIAS documentation, and other FAA communication products.
Key Responsibilities
Writing & Editing
- Develop and edit high-quality reports, programmatic analyses, technical documentation, and guidance materials for FAA Airports programs.
- Produce both draft and final documents that meet FAA formatting, style, and accessibility requirements (including Section 508 compliance).
- Coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather content, verify technical accuracy, and ensure clarity of complex information.
Program Documentation Support
Support development of FAA Orders, handbooks, guides, manuals, and other internal / external program documentation.Assist in compiling, organizing, and formatting reports such as NPIAS, AIP Handbook updates, audit responses, and internal control assessments.Ensure consistency of language, style, and format across multiple deliverables and platforms.Quality Assurance & Review
Review documents for accuracy, grammar, clarity, and compliance with FAA standards.Maintain documentation of revisions, track changes, and ensure deliverable approval by the FAA COR.Assist in ensuring all written deliverables are integrated into the Project Management Plan (PMP) for tracking and reporting purposes.Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with program analysts, GIS specialists, BCA analysts, and program managers to translate technical and analytical content into clear written materials.Participate in virtual meetings and occasionally attend in-person briefings at FAA Headquarters.Support development of presentation materials and training documents as required.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university in English, journalism, political science, or a related field.15 years of professional writing experience , preferably on federal government contracts or for federal programs.Experience developing reports of programmatic analyses or other complex federal government documentation.Strong technical writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with experience presenting complex data and analysis clearly.Familiarity with federal style guides, documentation standards, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.Must reside in the Washington, DC metro area and be able to travel to FAA Headquarters occasionally.
