Job description

ABOUT US :

At The Foggy Dog, we believe your best friend deserves the best. That’s why we are passionate about making high-quality pet accessories that are as beautiful as they are functional. And, every order helps a pup in need : since launch, we are proud to have provided over 500,000 pounds of food to rescue shelters. Our products are available at www.thefoggydog.com and in over 1,000 brick and mortar retailers.

We are a small (but mighty!) female-founded team based in San Francisco. As a family-owned business, we are invested in finding the best people to join our tightly knit team. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a creative, energetic, data-driven environment and share our values of collaboration, communication, and positivity. This role is an exciting opportunity to make a huge impact on a fast-growing ecommerce company from the ground up.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

As Director of Marketing and Ecommerce, you’ll own the full ecommerce funnel for a rapidly scaling DTC brand from acquisition to conversion to retention. Acting as a GM, you’ll lead strategy and execution across performance marketing, lifecycle programs, and digital experience to deliver revenue and margin goals.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, isn’t afraid to challenge assumptions, and is obsessed with testing, learning, and scaling. You'll report directly to the Founder & CEO and play a pivotal role in shaping the next phase of our growth.

Our headquarters are in San Francisco, CA (hybrid : in office twice / week). We will give preference to local San Francisco Bay Area candidates, but will also consider exceptional remote candidates willing to travel as needed.

Key Responsibilities :

Acquisition Marketing :

  • Own performance marketing strategy, managing a 7-figure acquisition budget across paid media channels including Meta and Google, as well as direct mail.
  • Optimize performance marketing efforts to improve aMER and contribution margin through rigorous testing and analysis.
  • Identify and test new customer acquisition channels and campaign opportunities.

Retention & Lifecycle Marketing :

  • Lead our retention strategy to drive repurchase rate and maximize LTV.
  • Own email, SMS and direct mail channels.
  • Oversee lifecycle marketing programs, including onboarding, post-purchase, winback, and loyalty.
  • Manage segmentation, automation, and personalization across the entire customer journey.
  • Website Optimization & CRO :

  • Own website KPIs including conversion rate, AOV, and overall user experience.
  • Partner with design, UX, and engineering teams to run ongoing A / B tests and site experiments.
  • Use data and heatmaps to identify friction points and drive continuous CRO improvements.
  • Customer Analytics & Insights :

  • Own marketing and customer analytics to deepen understanding of customer behavior, preferences, and journey touchpoints.
  • Lead cohort, attribution, and LTV analysis to inform acquisition, retention, and product decisions.
  • Drive a culture of experimentation and insight-led decision making.
  • Leadership & Strategy :

  • Build, manage, and mentor a high-performing team across growth, retention, and Cx.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and KPI reviews in collaboration with Planning and Finance.
  • Translate business objectives into marketing strategies with measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a key strategic partner to executive leadership across marketing, product, and customer experience.
  • ABOUT YOU :

  • 8-10+ years of experience in ecommerce marketing, ideally at a $30M+ revenue DTC brand.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful growth strategies across paid media, email / SMS marketing, and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
  • Experience owning 7-figure marketing budgets, ideally in the fashion or accessories industry.
  • Experience with conversion rate optimization and website analytics. Shopify Plus experience is strongly preferred, as is Google Analytics experience.
  • 3+ years experience leading teams, setting vision and measuring results.
  • A thinker and a doer. You have a talent for conceptualizing new ideas, but also love putting them in motion. You feel equally comfortable building a marketing plan and analyzing a spreadsheet.
  • A strong team player who values collaboration, communication, mentorship and transparency.
  • Data-driven and analytical. You always try to inform decisions with data. When data is not available, you’re comfortable defining and driving the necessary data collection and analysis.
  • Customer-obsessed : You care deeply about building the best possible experience for our customers, and leverage data, testing and market research to do so.
  • A born problem solver. You thrive when faced with tough challenges that need creative solutions. You are never satisfied with the status quo and constantly want to improve.
  • Positive and can-do with a willingness to roll up your sleeves & take on any task that’s needed. A desire to get things DONE above all else.
  • A dog lover, of course.
  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :

We offer a comprehensive package including :

  • Competitive salary.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with matching.
  • Paid vacation, holidays and sick leave.
  • Generous Foggy Dog product allowance.
  • The ability to bring your dog to work (please do!).
  • We aim to pay competitively for our company size and industry. The base salary for this position is $150,000+ per year and we will consider location, skill level and experience to determine the final offer. In addition to salary, we offer all employees additional benefits, outlined above.

    TO APPLY :

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter to careers@thefoggydog.com with “Director of Marketing and Ecommerce” in the subject line. We are a small team and every hire has a huge impact on the company, so tell us what inspires you to want to join our team. Please note that we will not evaluate resumes without cover letters.

We believe a diversity of viewpoints, experiences, and backgrounds make our team stronger. The Foggy Dog is proud to be an equal opportunity employer (EEO) that welcomes applicants and employees of all genders, races, backgrounds, orientations and nationalities.
