This position works closely with the City Engineer and the Director of Public Works in planning, designing and managing projects within a particular area of responsibility (Traffic).

Schedule : Monday - Friday, 8 : 00am - 4 : 30pm, occasional weekend / evening hours

Starting salary : $90,573.04 - $127,010.08

General :

• Prepares, supervises, and reviews the preparation of complete plans, drawings, specifications and estimates for public works projects for compliance with codes, regulations and standards, and for compliance with approved plans.
• Manages multiple complex construction projects from beginning to end including the direct purchasing of materials, inspection and survey staff and public outreach.
• Manages construction projects for other City departments.
• Leads Public Information meetings and meetings with other local agencies related to project development, safety issues and other cross-governmental coordination.
• Manages multi-party contracts between the City and consulting firms for necessary services.
• Prepares Requests for Proposals / Quotes for consult and services.
• Attends Committee, Board and Council meetings, as needed.
• Oversees and checks the design work of other Engineers in the Department.
• Coordinates with DPW operation and maintenance crews.
• Must make independent judgments and decisions with little guidance.
• Responsible for major input into developing Departmental policies.
• Competes technical engineering research work and compiles comprehensive reports with effective recommendations on engineering problems.

Traffic :

Requirements of Work Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering and additional education to obtain and maintain a Wisconsin Professional Engineer License, and at least 10 years of civil engineering experience; a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is required for the Traffic Engineering position (within 18 months of hire); or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills :

Necessary Special Requirements Professional Engineer License; valid Wisconsin driver's license; a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is required for the Traffic Engineering position within 18 months of hire.
