Summary :
Ensures the production of safe, wholesome, high quality products throughout the commissary and bakery production areas; complies with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safe quality food (SQF), safety policies, and hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) and complies with all applicable governmental laws and regulations; designated backup in the absence of Quality Assurance Supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager
Responsibilities :
- Supports the implementation and execution of quality assurance and SQF compliance programs.
- Assesses the HACCP plan annually and updates / reviews the following : flow charts, process hazard analysis, product descriptions for new products, analysis for new ingredients and analysis for new packaging.
- Maintains all documents related to SQF and Food Safety & Quality compliance.
- Implements continuous improvement of food safety and quality focused programs.
- Performs internal audits and coordinates internal auditing team and program; makes corrective actions as needed.
- Conducts external supplier audits when needed.
- Assists in supplier complaints and annual supplier documentation requests and follow up.
- Participates in Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), SQF, and Customer Audits.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with SQF codes; stays current with food safety and quality code changes.
- Serves as the facility’s food defense coordinator.
- Conducts annual food defense vulnerability assessment and works with Management to mitigate risks.
- Conducts complaint investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Tracks complaint trends on an annual basis.
- Reviews and creates SOP’s and SSOP’s; creates and maintains Master Sanitation Schedules and works closely with plant sanitation teams
- Coordinates Pest Control Program for the facility. Reviews service reports and trends.
- Serves as a mentor to Quality Assurance Technicians.
- Schedules, prioritizes and monitors Quality Assurance Technicians work performance and ensures daily and monthly tasks are completed.
- Collaborates with Management to annually evaluate training programs; assists with developing training materials and training Quality Assurance Technicians as needed.
- Assists in recalls when needed.
- Follows and adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices, Company protocols and applicable governmental food safety programs and procedures, e.g., SQF, FDA and USDA.
- Keeps abreast of quality assurance industry trends and changes in applicable food production laws and regulations.
- Maintains list of allergens to avoid contamination of products.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area; ensures equipment is clean and ready for use.
- Operates and monitors proper functioning of equipment; follows safety procedures when operating equipment, and properly sanitizes equipment and work area during and after use.
- Monitors inventory level for supplies and chemicals and orders as needed for the quality and sanitation departments.
- Serves as back up to Quality Assurance Technicians in production as needed.
- Assists Regulatory Affairs Supervisor in updating and approving labels as necessary .
- Wears the applicable personal protective equipment (PPE), e.g., safety glasses / goggles and / or gloves when operating equipment.
- Demonstrates a high value for health, environment, safety and security issues, initiatives and programs in both personal and organizational responsibilities.
- Integrates health, environment, safety and security into day-to-day job performance.
- Reports food safety and quality problems to direct supervisors immediately.
- Coordinates and attends quality assurance and SQF meetings as needed.
- Completes other duties, including special assignments, as assigned by Management.
Preferred Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field.Certifications in SQF, HACCP and PCQI Required. Internal Auditing and Food Defense Coordinator preferred or should be acquired upon hire.Experience Requirements :
3-5+ years Company experience or prior quality assurance experience.See Grade Level Distinctions.Skills and Attributes :
Excellent communication skills and the ability to read English.Basic math skills and knowledge of SPC.Demonstrated knowledge of Word, Excel, and other MS Office suite applications.Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to research and resolve issues.Knowledge of SQF, FDA, USDA, GMPs, HACCP food regulations and documentation requirements.Knowledge of food product development, processes, food safety and allergens.Ability to take direction and follow policies and procedures.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Positive, professional attitude and adaptive to change.Physical Job Demands :
