Indigenous Food System Specialist

Base pay range

$22.00 / yr - $22.00 / yr

POSITION SUMMARY

The Indigenous Food System Specialist will work closely with the Indigenous Food System Manager. Addressing food insecure and low‑income communities by establishing and maintaining backyard gardens, promoting food security, nutrition, and community resilience. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience working with diverse communities, knowledge of gardening practices and sustainable food systems, and a commitment to addressing systemic inequities in food access.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or equivalent education required
• Pursuing a degree in Hawaiian studies or Food system related field preferred
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in food systems and equity / social justice, nutrition, or public health preferred
• Knowledge of local community food system is required
• Experience working within the Waianae community preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software, with a proven ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies required
• A current Hawaii State Driver’s License and daily access to an automobile is required
