Job Description and Duties

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST – COASTAL DIVISION / SAN LUIS OBISPO COAST / MORRO BAY SECTOR OFFICE

The reporting location for this position is Morro Bay Sector Office in Morro Bay, CA. This position will work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist.

The Environmental Scientist will assist in a variety of responsible professional scientific offices and field work. The Environmental Scientist will independently perform assigned environmental and natural resource management analysis, research, surveys, and studies; writes final reports; prepares regulatory and compliance documents; enforces environmental law and regulations; prepares non-routine correspondence and answer non-routine questions from the public. The Environmental Scientist performs a variety of tasks including the more responsible, varied, and complex assignments, will be able to work independently and will be assigned lead responsibilities for State and / or federally listed species. Tasks will further Natural Resources Division projects and programs as identified by the Senior Environmental Specialist.

Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

Collect environmental data; analyze and evaluate data; review and interpret scientific and environmental reports; establish and maintain cooperative relations and conduct effective communications with local agencies; prepare clear, complete, and technically accurate reports; and maintain cooperative relations with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers in various park disciplines.
