Overview
The Commercial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in commercial buildings such as offices, retail spaces, schools, and industrial facilities. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to safety standards, and the ability to interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in commercial buildings.
Inspect electrical components such as transformers, circuit breakers, and panel boards.
Diagnose electrical problems using specialized testing devices.
Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
Ensure all work complies with National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations.
Collaborate with general contractors, architects, and other construction professionals.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical systems.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
Adhere to all company and OSHA safety standards.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved apprenticeship program preferred.
Valid journeyman or master electrician license (as required by state).
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in commercial electrical work.
Strong understanding of electrical theory, NEC codes, and commercial wiring techniques.
Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions
Work is performed at commercial job sites, often requiring climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment, and working in confined spaces.
