The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a vital leadership role in supporting the Director of Nursing (DON) with the overall management and coordination of nursing services. Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care that meets all federal, state, and local regulatory standards. The ADON provides direct support to the DON in staffing, training, and clinical oversight—promoting a culture of professionalism, safety, and compassion.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Assist the DON in organizing, planning, and directing daily nursing operations.
Supervise nursing personnel to ensure appropriate staffing and skill mix.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of nursing staff.
Mentor and coach nurses and CNAs to foster professional growth and retention.
Clinical Oversight
Monitor care delivery, ensuring compliance with CMS and Department of Public Health regulations.
Review and update resident care plans and clinical documentation for accuracy.
Oversee infection prevention and control programs.
Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
Resident Care & Family Relations
Serve as a clinical resource for complex resident care needs.
Communicate proactively with residents and families to ensure satisfaction.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care plan reviews.
Education & Training
Develop and deliver in-service training and educational programs.
Ensure nursing staff maintain required competencies and certifications.
Promote evidence-based practices and continuous clinical improvement. Administrative & Compliance
Assist with survey readiness and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate nursing department records and reports.
Participate in budgeting, resource allocation, and cost management.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Massachusetts (required).
Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred; Associate’s degree (ADN) considered with strong experience.
3–5 years of clinical experience in long-term care, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state long-term care regulations (CMS, 105 CMR, etc.)
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in emergencies.
Schedule & Work Environment
Full-time : Monday–Friday, with flexibility for weekends or on-call coverage.
Work performed in a healthcare facility with daily interaction among residents, staff, and families.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must possess adequate visual and auditory acuity to monitor and respond to resident needs.
