Mechanical Inspector
Location : Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)
Division : Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection
Position Summary
The Mechanical Inspector supports LAWA’s Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) . This position is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) work complies with plans, specifications, permits, environmental documents, and applicable codes.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector (required to apply)
- Proof of Cal-OSHA 30-Hour Training within the last 4 years (must be provided before assignment)
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience performing mechanical inspections for building constructionThorough knowledge of materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systemsCurrent ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certificationProof of Cal-OSHA 30-Hour Training within the last 4 yearsFall Protection and Harness TrainingConfined Space Entry TrainingPreferred Qualifications
Additional current ICC Certifications as Electrical Inspector and Plumbing InspectorNFPA 70E Standards Training within the last 3 years (preferred)Training and knowledge of NFPA 70, 70E, and 72Journey-level experience as an Electrician with emphasis on installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settingsPlumbing experience (journeyman or master level) with progression into inspectionExperience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial, or public buildingsExperience ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on major construction projectsBackground in projects requiring coordination with contractors, engineers, and city officialsProven ability to identify and address deficiencies and ensure construction meets required standardsOpenness to learning prescriptive items required by the agencyStrong understanding of diverse code requirementsExcellent communication and time management skillsEssential Job Duties
Inspect construction of airport improvement and utility projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, and agreements.Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across building and terminal projects.Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.Prepare accurate daily inspection reports detailing the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of observed activities, documenting issues or safety concerns in a timely manner.Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes (NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72) and LAWA-specific standards.Track and document time-and-material work , field changes , and job quantities.Validate contractor progress payment requests against approved schedules of values.Support special inspections and testing activities , coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies.Inspection Scope : Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP)
