Nurse Assistant (Non-Certified)
This position will assist in patient care throughout the nursing areas and / or stay suites. It is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services, and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize his / her safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit and / or stay suites to post ASC patients.
Minimum Requirements
- Current Nursing Assistant certification Preferred
- Minimum of two years' patient care experience
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Required
- CPR certification from American Heart Association (AHA) - Required
Essential Functions
Set up room for post op patients.Deliver patient's belongings to patient rooms.Orient patient to room and call lights.Frequent vital signs.Teach bedside exercises.Educate about diet-chart nutritional monitoring on all mealsAssist with tray delivery as needed.Ambulate patients.Linen / Supplies (Stock)Change dressings as indicated per policy and procedure.Transport patient to vehicle on discharge.Bladder scan as indicated per protocol.Reports patient's status and needs to RN.Answer call lights and attends to / reports patient needs.Obtains urine / stool / sputum specimens.Transfers, moves and repositions patients.Makes occupied and unoccupied beds.Maintains current knowledge and certification requirements.Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his / her responsibilities related to general safety, department / service safety and specific job-related hazards.Respect and regard the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.Knowledge of : Computers, Vital signs, Intake and Output, Bowel and Bladder function, Bed changes, etc., Nutrition, Ambulation Flow Sheet, PainEmpty catheters, drains, urinals and bedpans as indicated.Assist housekeeping with breakdown and setting up of patient rooms.Transport beds to PACU.The certified nursing assistant is an integral part of the health care team who delivers quality care through collaboration and communication with team members.Work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse to support and assist the nurse in the delivery of care to patients and families.Receive written / verbal report at the beginning of each shift regarding the care that is to be delivered to the assigned group of patients.Give report when leaving the unit, and at the completion of the shift regarding the care that was delivered; any abnormalities that occur during the shift are to be reported to the RN as well as to the oncoming CNA / NAAssist with data collection i.e.. Vital signs, weight, blood sugar, functional status and communicates changes to the RN in a timely fashion.Participate in respectful communication with patients, families and coworkers.Observe skin changes and reports to RNPromote infection control by using appropriate hand washing techniques.Follow standard precautions and any other isolation precautions as dictated by patient condition.Maintain a safe environment and protects patients from injury by observing the patient who may be at risk for falls, confusion, disorientation or suicidal behaviors.Perform patient care roundsCommunicate pertinent observations to appropriate members of the health care team in a timely fashion.Work in collaboration with all members of the health care team.Assist the physician or provider to perform physical examsEncourage the use of pulmonary toileting by teaching the Incentive Spirometer, coughing, turning and deep breathingApply current accepted methods of heat and cold therapy as directed by the nurseParticipate in the prevention of skin breakdownPhysical Demands
