The Quality Control Field Technician is responsible for sampling, testing, and monitoring the quality of ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and aggregates at batch plants, job sites, and source locations. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and internal quality control procedures by conducting on-site material testing and troubleshooting. The technician works closely with operations, contractors, and testing laboratories to ensure material consistency and performance in the field.
Essential Functions of the Position :
FIELD SAMPLING & TESTING :
- Perform sampling of ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and aggregates at batch plants and job sites.
- Conduct on-site testing of concrete in accordance with ACI standards, including slump, unit weight, air content, and cylinder casting.
- Monitor and document material performance and quality at various project locations.
- Identify and report non-conforming materials and assist in troubleshooting issues.
- Provide real-time field data and technical feedback to support sales and operations teams.
OPERATIONAL SUPPORT & COMMUNICATION :
Assist operations in managing and adjusting materials in the field as needed.Communicate test results, material concerns, and recommendations to the Quality Control Lab Manager.Document and report field testing results in a timely and accurate manner.Collaborate with batch plant personnel, contractors, and third-party testing agencies to resolve field-related quality concerns.Skills and Knowledge :
Strong communication skills for working with plant personnel, contractors, and testing agencies.Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.Capable of working independently in field environments with minimal supervision.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficient in record-keeping and accurate data entry.Requirements :
High school diploma or GED preferred; additional coursework in construction materials or engineering is a plus.Minimum 2 years of experience in field testing, quality control, or construction materials.ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification preferred.Caltrans certifications for asphalt and concrete preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred.Valid Class C driver’s license and reliable transportation.Strong English communication and writing skills.Physical Demands :
