General Description :
Under the direct supervision of the Department Head of Cardiovascular Services or designee the Lead Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist manages the daily operations of the Cath Lab where adult diagnostic and cardiovascular invasive procedures are performed. This position functions independently as an expert technologist in Cath Lab Procedures who maintains radiologically safe environment in the laboratory and provides education and training to staff on all Cath Lab policies and procedures. The Lead CVIS will be responsible for Cath lab organization / communication and staff education.
Key Responsibilities :
- Assists management in planning, organizing, and directing the daily operations of the Cath Lab including participating in unit performance improvement and quality management measures.
- Serves as a role model and expert resource for both internal and external customers regarding standards of care for adult diagnostic and interventional Cath Lab procedures.
- Implements safe, competent, and efficient procedure care to the Cath Lab within policies, procedures, and standards of care across a variety of populations and complexity of situations within the scope of practice.
- Demonstrates expertise in all cardiovascular laboratory technical skills, image acquisition, transferring and archiving of images, trouble shooting skills and expert knowledge of catheters and specialty equipment used during Cath Lab procedures.
- Oversees and actively participates in annual invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular skills, ECG competency and unit competencies for staff.
- Demonstrates an expert knowledge of radiological equipment & safety, shielding techniques, expert imaging skills and X-Ray equipment trouble-shooting skills, analyzing, 3D mapping and recording equipment and other equipment utilized in the Cath Lab.
- Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following : verify orders and facilitate implementation, communicating with physicians as needed. Proficiently performs coronary diagnostic and interventional procedures, and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures. Performs treatments and administers medications according to policy and training. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions and medications. Performs within the bounds of the applicable scope of practice for Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist.
- Assures that informed patient consent has been obtained and that all questions and concerns have been answered to the patients satisfaction. Ensures Universal Protocol standards are followed and met for all invasive procedures.
- Demonstrates and maintains effective communication skills with management and the interdisciplinary health care team. Communicates with Clinical coordinator to accommodate multiple and sometimes conflicting requests for schedule time, equipment, and supplies to facilitate the efficient throughput of patients in the Cath lab.
- Foresees potential problems, adapts priorities, and plans independently with and without medical direction in response to general information / data indicative of potential urgent or emergent life-threatening risks, initiates action to reduce or correct the risk per ACLS guidelines.
Requirements : Formal Education :
Graduate of a Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist or Radiologist Technologist training program.Work Experience :
3 to 5 years of Cath Lab work experience preferred in a dedicated Cath Lab setting.Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations :
Must possess upon hire and maintain one of the following :Registered Nurse (RN)
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) orRegistered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)Current BLS through the American Heart Association required.Current ACLS through the American Heart Association or obtain within 3 months of hire.Full Time Benefits :
