Job Description

The Department of English at the University of Nevada Reno invites applications for a 12-month non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professor with a specialization in rhetoric and writing studies. The person in this position will also serve as a Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator working with a tenure-track faculty member to administer the departments Collegiate Academy program.

Collegiate Academy is a dual credit program offering high school students the opportunity to earn college credit. The applicant who fills this position will be responsible for facilitating monthly professional development meetings with teachers; leading weekly meetings with TAs and their partnering teachers; participating in biweekly meetings with instructors; meeting weekly with the program director; communicating with teachers TAs and instructors; updating program materials; and helping plan and run TA orientation during the summer. They will also teach one regular UNR course each semester in accordance with their interests and departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

• Lecturer II - MA in English with a focus in rhetoric and writing studies or a related field in hand by July 1 2026

• Teaching Assistant Professor - PhD in English or a related field in hand by July 1 2026

• Demonstrated excellence or clear evidence of potential for excellence in teaching writing at the college level

• Experience in university writing program administration

Preferred Qualifications

• K-12 teaching experience

• Experience teaching or supporting dual/concurrent enrollment teachers and students

• Evidence of attention to different levels of student preparation in research teaching and/or service

Department Information

The Department of English housed in the College of Liberal Arts offers a diverse range of fields of study including literature language and linguistics professional and public writing and creative writing. We also offer a minor in cinema and media studies. Our graduate programs include PhD concentrations in literature and Rhetoric & Writing Studies (RWS) an MFA in creative writing and MA degrees in literature RWS and Public Engagement. The department houses the Core Writing program for the university and maintains close relationships with other core and affiliate programs including Core Humanities and the Department of Gender Race and Identity Studies.
