Overview
Transportation Security Officers are responsible for providing security and protection of travelers across all transportation sectors in a courteous and professional manner. Their duties may also extend to securing high-profile events, important figures and / or anything that includes or impacts our transportation systems.

Salary 57,061 to 70,353 per year (SV D, locator : Jackson Hole Airport, Jackson, WY). Salary includes locality pay where applicable.
Duties
- Operate screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers; prevent objects from being transported onto aircraft.
- Perform searches and screening, including potential physical interaction with passengers (pat-downs, search of property, etc.), bag searches, and lifting / carrying bags up to 50 lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points.
- Interact with the public, give directions and respond to inquiries.
- Maintain focus in stressful environments to identify and locate life-threatening or mass-disruption devices and make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
- Engage in continuous development of critical thinking to mitigate security threats; apply risk-based security screening protocols as required.
- Retain and implement knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures; adapt to change and new information as needed.
Requirements / Conditions of Employment
You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.Minimum age of 18 at time of application.Selective Service registration is required.Must pass structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation; subject to post-employment random drug / alcohol testing.Must be available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension).Mandatory travel for training; occasional travel may be required; up to six weeks of full-time duty travel depending on duty location.Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent to the position.Physical Demands
Maintain physical agility; repeatedly lift and manipulate baggage up to 50 pounds.Walk up to three miles during a shift and stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours).Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5 / 6) :
A. Experience : At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.ORB. Education : High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.Credit for experience is based on a 40-hour workweek; part-time experience is credited on a proportional basis. National Service experience (including volunteer work) may be credited where applicable.
Other requirements include occasional travel for training, Selective Service verification for male applicants, credit and residency checks, and other pre-employment screenings as described in the announcement.
Work Schedules and Travel
Full-time : 40 hours / week; variable shifts including nights, holidays, overtime, and weekends; may include split shifts.Part-time : 16-32 hours / week; variable shifts including irregular hours and weekends.Relocation / Moving / travel expenses are not paid for this position.Benefits
