About the START Model
The START Model provides prevention and intervention services to people with intellectual / developmental disabilities (IDD) and complex behavioral health needs through crisis planning and response, education, consultation, and coaching. Services are guided by comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, with a focus on helping people remain in their homes and communities while enhancing the community's ability to support them. START teams use best practices and guiding principles to build strong, collaborative relationships across service systems.
Job Title : Clinical Director
Position Summary
The START Clinical Director is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the START program. This role provides clinical oversight, ensures best practices are implemented, and supports program fidelity to the START model. The Clinical Director supervises clinical staff, oversees case management services, ensures documentation and data integrity, and builds strong relationships with staff, clients, families, and community partners.
This position requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to manage both administrative responsibilities and field-based crisis response work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to the START team.
- Oversee START clinical staff, case management services, intake, service delivery, and documentation.
- Review documentation and provide clinical input on behavior support and interaction plans.
- Deliver training, consultation, and community education sessions (CETs).
- Assist staff in preparing for START Coordinator certification.
- Provide on-site consultation and crisis support as needed.
- Monitor data entry and ensure accuracy in the START Information Reporting System (SIRS).
- Develop systems and processes to achieve departmental goals aligned with organizational priorities.
- Serve as liaison to community partners and state agencies, responding to requests for data and program updates.
- Coordinate and lead community trainings and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in the START on-call rotation to ensure rapid response to urgent needs.
Required Qualifications
PsyD, PHD, LCSW, LMFT, Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related fieldMinimum 2 years of experience working with people with IDD and behavioral health needs.Experience developing and implementing positive behavior support plans preferred.Certified START Coordinator (or willingness to complete certification within 6–12 months of hire).Strong leadership and supervisory experience.Knowledge of behavioral health, IDD systems, family dynamics, and community resources.Excellent written / verbal communication, clinical reporting, and case management skills.Proficiency with data systems and technology to support service delivery.Essential Functions
