Unit Overview :
Join our 24-bed Neurosurgical Unit , where you will care for a diverse patient population, including :
Post-operative care for craniotomies, AVMs, and tumor resections.Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgeries.Patients undergoing treatment for hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes as part of our Comprehensive Stroke Program .A high volume of cervical and spinal surgery patients, along with medical overflow cases .As part of the Aurora Neuroscience Innovation Institute (ANII) , our unit offers exposure to the latest neurosurgical techniques and advanced patient care.

Utilize the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness.Recognize significant patient condition changes and act accordingly.Implement strategies to enhance patient safety and reduce risks.Coordinate discharge plans with an interdisciplinary approach.Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, and take action as necessary.Communicate effectively and promote collaboration within the healthcare team.Encourage a culture of safety by identifying and addressing potential risks.Participate in quality improvement initiatives.Engage in professional development activities and mentorship opportunities.Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles.Licensure, Registration, and / or Certification Required :
Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.Education Required :
Completion of an accredited Nursing program.Experience Required :
Typically, 1 year of clinical nursing experience.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :
Ability to provide holistic patient care with a family-centered approach.Proficient in critical thinking and decision-making.Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Competency in electronic medical record systems.Capability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, reach, and twist.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., lift 20 lbs. overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs.Capability to push / pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers.May require exposure to hazardous materials; protective equipment is provided as necessary.Must have functional abilities for effective patient care delivery, including speech, vision, hearing, and touch.This job description outlines the nature and level of responsibilities expected of the role and may involve additional duties as required.
