Position Summary
The Medical Secretary will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a high-volume practice within the Nuclear Laboratory of the Division of Cardiology.
Responsibilities
- Meeting and greeting patients and visitors.
- Serve as a liaison to the clinical staff.
- Schedule appointments in Epic for nuclear and cardiac pet procedures, answer phones, perform pre-registration intake for new patients by obtaining the required data set.
- Prepare appropriate paperwork and / or charts for all incoming patients as well as explain procedure to patients.
- Confirm appointments, obtain referrals, verify insurance coverage and file charts.
- Scan and file all chart information into the Crown electronic health record system.
- Process and track all clinical services provided by the department through statistical database entry.
- Provide basic routine data report entry into the digital medical system. Gather all required data and relevant clinical information.
- Ensure timely retrieval and accuracy of dates of services provided. Verify patient information in EPIC, Crown, Webcis, Misys / Imagecast, and Eagle.
- Maintain laboratory records and logbooks.
- Maintain routine / preventive and emergency repair contacts.
- Responsible for managing the daily patient flow. Assist in determining appropriate test protocol upon scheduling and patient arrival.
- Monitor appropriate billing codes and diagnoses are documented and entered in the EPIC billing system.
- Ensure patient centered care by demonstrating behaviors that reflect a culture of service and will strive to meet expectations.
- Conform to all applicable HIPAA, Billing compliance and safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of college completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience plus a minimum of one to three years related experience in a clinical practice setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree desirable.
- Knowledge of EPIC billing and scheduling systems preferred. Knowledge of Medical terminology.
