Global Health Leaders (GHL) is an international healthcare education and research firm dedicated to advancing accessible healthcare worldwide. We train and mentor the next generation of global healthcare leaders while providing essential medical services in rural communities facing extreme poverty.

Internship Overview

Our study abroad internships take place in the Dominican Republic (and occasionally Belize) . All interns begin with the Medical Program , where they serve alongside licensed doctors in temporary rural clinics. Students then choose whether to participate only in the Medical Program or to add on the Research Track for deeper academic experience.

🔹 Medical Internship (Core Internship)

• 8-week program : 7 weeks remote pre-departure training + 1 week in-country.
• Interns work in rural communities where families live on less than $5 / day, often with no electricity, running water, or healthcare access.
• On-site responsibilities include :
• Assisting with intake, triage, vitals, pharmacy, and patient education.
• Supporting licensed physicians in providing screenings, evaluations, and basic treatments.
• Leading community health education sessions on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
• No prior medical experience required. All training is provided.
