The Director of Engagement Excellence will create and maintain a viable employee engagement platform dedicated to proactive acquisition of operations candidates, effective deployment of Martin Bros.’ Employer of Choice campaign, and focused strategy of developing and retaining top operations talent. Is responsible for leading and developing the vision and processes to drive significant improvement in safety, quality, customer service, employee engagement and retention. Provides leadership, coaching and training across all shifts to create an environment that engages the total workforce.

Develop and iterate, as needed, Martin Bros. Employer of Choice platform, collaborating accordingly to tout the benefits of Martin Bros’ family-owned, employee-owned culture.

  • Coordinate advertising campaigns for operational departments in conjunction with Human Resources and Marketing
  • Facilitate active communication of primary stakeholders – Transportation, Warehouse, IT, Food Markets, Human Resources, and Marketing to collectively achieve maximum employee staffing levels, retention, and employee engagement
  • Assist Directors with messaging coinciding with major accomplishments and events maintaining focus on culture and values.
  • Partner with operational management to create a cadence of celebration and appreciation.
  • Introduce and Coordinate gamification efforts on a regular basis for all operational departments in conjunction with the Directors.

Organize developmental strategy for all operational departments in conjunction with Human Resources in alignment with company goals and needs.

  • Partners with operational management and Human Resources to develop and implement necessary training and development opportunities for the operational departments.
  • Ensure proper planning, coordination, communication, and follow-up across multiple leadership areas.
  • Partner with operational management and Human Resources to ensure development plans are in place for identified talent.
  • Work with Human Resources, Safety & Compliance, and operational management to ensure all required training requirements are met in a timely manner.
  • Work with VP of Operations and Directors on idea promotion and development.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) to track progress and drive accountability.
  • Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth implementation of new processes and practices.
  • Job Duties :

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local school administrators / counselors to access pool of candidates, namely graduating seniors without post-secondary school aspirations.
  • Communicate regularly with local school administrators / counselors, driver certification instructors, and other potential candidate outreach contacts.
  • Create, promote, and refine Martin Bros. 101 marketing materials to accurately depict operations-based roles and attract prospective candidates.
  • Develop and iterate Martin Bros. 101 course materials, including manuals, video tutorials, webpages, etc.
  • Schedule Martin Bros. 101 recruitment courses at critical time junctures (e.g. : mid-term graduation, spring graduation, summer school, etc.).
  • Promote Martin Bros. core values and family-owned, employee-owned culture with both prospective and existing employees.
  • Participate in on-boarding and orientation for operational departments where needed and serve as a backup for all functions where suitable.
  • Meet with prospective candidates and encourage immediate applications for operations-based employment.
  • Coordinate with HR on stay interviews, exit interviews, and other sources of information to help promote both engagement and recruitment efforts.
  • Attend external recruitment events, if / when appropriate.
  • Participate in new hire employee onboarding, including post-orientation status touchpoints.
  • Administer Employer of Choice new hire progressive touchpoints, including milestone achievements (e.g. : 30-day, 90-day, six-month, and one-year employment anniversaries).
  • Administer Employer of Choice veteran touchpoints, including milestone achievements (e.g. : three-year, five-year, seven-year, and ten-year anniversaries, etc.).
  • Create UKG Ready announcements, touting employee accomplishments, highlighting employee perks, and promoting regular utilization of the UKG Ready app.
  • Update employee communication screens relevant to operations-based employees.
  • Maintain active list of internal / external perks and corporate discounts available to employees and solicit other possible opportunities with community partners.
  • Engage with operations-based employees, soliciting novel ideas and / or input for proactive improvement to existing programs.
  • Participate in and / or manage operations-based employee appreciation events.
  • Create and administer operations-based gamification contests, including sourcing of relevant prizes / awards or managing distribution of monetary incentives.
  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to promote Martin Bros.’ employee engagement activities on various social media platforms.
  • Work various hours with respective stakeholder departments to accomplish Martin Bros. overall goals. This would include evenings and weekends as required, in addition to periodic travel, when applicable.
  • Other duties as needed.
  • Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resource Management, or a related field, plus 3-5 years of previous management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills and Qualifications :

  • General business knowledge – Finance, Operations, Management, Marketing
  • Excellent job knowledge of operations functions and responsibilities
  • High level of commitment to the organization
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Computer skills for report functions, operational methods, and basic marketing
  • Ability to make decisions where limited standardization exists
  • Ability to develop, update, and maintain standards and procedures manuals
  • Ability to deal with unique problems and resolve them quickly
  • Good judgment to make decisions in the best interest of Martin Bros.
  • Great communicator with internal personnel, other Martin Bros. managers / stakeholders, and external contacts
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment requirements (including background check and drug screen)
