THE POSITION
Under the general supervision this position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations for City-wide aquatics facilities and programming. Responsibilities include determining the use of facilities ensuring quality customer service and safe facilities for guests.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
This is the advanced journey-level class in Aquatics Recreation series responsible for leading and supervising a group of seasonal staff in providing support of the Aquatics work involves the coordinating scheduling and assignment of multiple concurrent classification is distinguished from Aquatics Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for the overall planning the leadership supervision and developing and monitoring assigned budget for City-wide Aquatics Program.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED :
Supervision is provided by the Aquatics Recreation Supervisor or a higher-level management position. Responsibilities include supervision of seasonal aquatics staff coordinate hiring training and support of staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include but are notlimited to the following :
- Assist in the daily operation and maintenance of pool / facilities; supervise seasonal aquatic staff; assist in the development and implementation of goals strategies policies and procedures.
- Assist in the hiring training supervising and evaluating the work of seasonal aquatics staff; and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Conduct Lifeguarding classes reviews emergency drills and employee in-service training programs for staff.
- Coordinate plan develop implement and evaluate comprehensive community aquatic recreation program including instruction (Swim Lessons Swim Team Access Leisure) recreation and special events.
- Schedule staff and facilities. Establish schedule and manage use of facility for daily programs as well as group and facility rentals organized birthday parties and special user groups.
- Schedule pool usage for program and rental use and resolve scheduling disputes.
- Prepare invoices of facility rentals and maintain accurate records and backup.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of office first aid chemical operating and program supplies by tracking inventory requisitions and / or purchase supplies; and perform inventory audits.
- Responsible for administrative duties as required; particularly in terms of registration.
- Encumber expenditures and compile financial data for short and long range revenue projections.
- Assist with the development implementation and tracking of a marketing strategy; notifying the public of City-wide events sales and promotions to increase facility patronage.
- Develop and maintain relationships with City employees vendors and various outside users groups to coordinate their programs and special events.
- Learn to collect data and assist with the preparing enforcing maintaining and modifying policies and procedures manuals.
- Conduct periodic staff meetings to provide and gather information answer questions and respond to complaints and concerns both internally and externally.
- Provide a variety of general information to the public regarding parks and recreation operations and programs; respond to questions resolve complaints and survey patrons as needed.
- Observe necessary precautions to assure general public safety; inspect facilities for safety and maintenance needs by conducting facility walk-throughs on an on-going systematic basis and report maintenance repairs.
- Oversee and logs the maintenance of the swimming pools; on an emergency basis monitors pool water through testing of water samples; and adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards.
- Recognize emergency and dangerous situations and respond by administering first aid as needed and completing necessary reports.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional group meetings; stay abreast of training protocols new trends and innovations in the field of aquatics recreational services.
- Other related duties may also be performed; not all duties listed may necessarily be performed by each individual holding this classification.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of :
Basic principles and practices of supervision and training.Modern office procedures methods and general office equipment (e.g. computer software applications copier fax phone etc.).Basic principles and practices of monitoring revenue and compiling data for financial reports.Methods and techniques for ordering tracking and auditing inventory.Principles practices and techniques used in overseeing customer service programs janitorial techniques and risk management of a swimming pool.Aquatic and facility operations management scheduling and programming.Basic water chemistry principles as they apply to maintaining a pool.Applicable Federal State and County health and safety codes and regulations.A bility to :

Education
AA degree with major course work in recreation and leisure studies or directly related field.
And-Experience
Four years of experience to include two years of lead experience of an aquatic facility and two years of seasonal guarding and lesson instruction.
Substitution
An additional two years of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Driver License :
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Certificates :
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillators CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer;First Aid for Public Safety Personnel;American Red Cross Lifeguard Training;Lifeguard Training Instructor; andCertified Pool Operator (CPO and / or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)PROOF OF CERTIFICATION

Working Environment :
Poor acoustics and various weather conditions.Exposure to chemically treated water for a minimum of four (4) hours daily.During summer months work may be at an outdoor facility.Evening and weekend shifts.On-call for emergencies.Physical Requirements :
Perform lifeguard and instruction activities at pools.Frequently bend walk kneel stoop reach and lift in performance of duties.Lift and move chemicals supplies or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds; and up to 100 pounds with assistance.Vision requirements : near acuity far acuity depth perception and color vision.Strength and flexibility to make rescues and evidence such by maintaining current LGT certifications.Hearing must be adequate to hear patrons and / or co-workers communications up to 25 yards away.Occasional contact with chemicals used for cleaning as required.Sitting at a desk up to 40% of assigned shiftPROBATIONARY PERIOD :
Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.
