Position Summary :
The Hazmat Warehouse Specialist is responsible for overseeing the secure storage, handling, packaging, and distribution of Hazmat materials within a DLA-operated Government Distribution facility. This role ensures compliance with all Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), and federal regulations.
Responsibilities :
- Ensure strict compliance with DoD, DLA, and federal security regulations regarding Hazmat material accountability, safeguarding, and dissemination.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and accountability logs for Hazmat materials in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Oversee receipt, inspection, packaging and distribution (including hazardous packaging standards)
- Conduct regular audits, inventories, and inspections to ensure 100% accountability and compliance.
- Serve as primary liaison with security officers, government representatives, and compliance personnel regarding classified material handling.
- Monitor warehouse operations to ensure adherence to safety policies, OSHA standards, and DLA performance requirements.
- Support mission readiness by coordinating with logistics, supply chain, and transportation teams to meet deadlines and operational objectives.
- Identify, examine, classify, accept, reject, and dispose of material as per DLA regulations. Coordinate the receipt and shipment of hazardous materials, ensure proper packaging, documentation, and compliance with transportation regulations.
- Operate specialized equipment like forklifts, material handling equipment, and other tools required for handling hazardous materials.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports related to hazardous materials, inventory, and safety procedures.
- Effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other departments regarding hazardous material management, safety procedures, and any issues or concerns.
Qualifications :
HAZMAT CertificationU.S. Citizenship requiredActive Secret Security Clearance (or ability to obtain within 45 days)High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferredMinimum of 3-5 years of warehouse or logistics experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead roleExperience working with classified materials and knowledge of DoD / DLA security protocols preferredFamiliarity with automated logistics and warehouse management systems (e.g., DSS, LMP, SAP, or equivalent)Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAbility to lift to 50 lbs. (assisted) and work in warehouse / industrial environmentsCertification in HAZMAT packaging, forklift operation, or other warehouse credentials desirableWork Environment
