Organization Summary

The LA Conservation Corps (the Corps) is a private non-profit organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1986. To date more than 20000 young people have participated in the Corps classes and service projects learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Los Angeles area.

We create equitable opportunities for young people to build resilience in themselves their communities and the environment through a program of work education and support.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Program Manager the Program Coordinator implements the mission of the LA Conservation Corps by using his / her leadership skills to develop the educational and work skills of corpsmembers enabling them to advance in their own personal and career opportunities. The Program Coordinator adds value to the mission of the L A Conservation Corps by using her / his data management customer service and supervisory skills to develop the technical and personal skills of their staff while enhancing the City Plants Program. S / he accomplishes this mission by managing all data entry providing customer service and being responsible for the logistical aspects of the City Plants Program as well as supervising and leading crew supervisors who are responsible for the immediate supervision and development of corpsmembers. The Program Coordinator also ensures that the communities served receive the highest quality natural resources and conservation projects. Other duties assigned as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

C OMPLIANCE

  • Is accountable for establishing a safe working environment where no industrial injuries occur that can be attributed to negligence carelessness and / or inappropriate safety practices.

F ACILITATION AND P ARTNERSHIPS

  • Conducts regular program meetings to ensure that operations and program goals are being met.
  • Participates in weekly management team meetings.
  • Works and communicates with program sponsors local Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and other public and private agencies to guarantee scheduled goals are met.
  • Supervises inputs and reviews data and documentation and manages TreesForLA data and provides customer service.
  • F ISCAL M ANAGEMENT

  • Assists Senior Program Director in managing program activities and the overall management of annual budgets for assigned programs.
  • Helps develop specific program / project budgets and manage associated fiscal resources.
  • Enters and monitors contracts budgets (via ABM) periodically to ensure appropriate expenditures are within contract guidelines.
  • P ROGRAM M ANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for supervising individuals who report to this position.
  • Responsible for program deliverables goals and outcomes.
  • Appropriates human and material resources to ensure the projects are completed successfully and within the budget.
  • Works in conjunction with the Senior Program Director to secure necessary resources for proper department functionality.
  • Oversees the advanced monthly scheduling of work crews to insure a seamless flow of work for short- mid- and long-term planning.
  • Works with management to foster new funding and fee-for-service contract conjunction with helping to develop cost estimates on work opportunities.
  • Manages the data operating system including data backup periodic system checks upkeep and maintenance of office equipment.
  • Organizes special projects and community tree plantings as requested by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. This may consist of hosting weekend events for tree distributions in the City of Los Angeles as requested by our partner agencies.
  • S TAFF M ANAGEMENT

  • Ensures staff and programs meet departmental and program goals.
  • Ensures Corpsmember development by working with the management team to develop Corpsmembers both personally and professionally on the work site.
  • Provides support in Corpsmember training in conjunction with Corpsmembers.
  • Encourages and provides education in horticulture skills.
  • Supervises young people in the completion of work projects which include data entry nursery maintenance tree care and nursery development.
  • Oversees and not limited to 5 or more crew supervisors.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Required Education And Experience

    High School Diploma or equivalency from an accredited institution required; AA and / or bachelors degree preferred AND at least two (2) years of experience working and / or training young people of various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

    Proficiency in using and providing instruction for tools appropriate for various work projects.

    Previous experience working in the non-profit or public sector preferred.

    Other Duties and Requirements

  • Attend events and meetings in the community to support the program. This can involve working Saturdays or Sundays as needed.
  • Standard multi-media first aid certification. If you do not currently possess a standard multi-media first aid certification you will have 90 days from the effective date of acquiring this position to secure it.
  • Pass a post-offer drug / alcohol screen test before commencing employment (required to submit for the drug / alcohol screening at a company designated facility).
  • Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint / background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment.
  • California Drivers License validation of driving record for commercial policy insurability per the requirements of the state of California.
  • If a private vehicle is utilized for company purposes validation of a California Class C Drivers License validation of driving record and approval of commercial policy insurability is required in conjunction with proof of personal minimum liability insurance coverage per the requirements of the state of California.
  • Reference checks will be conducted; employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable references.
  • Salary and Benefits

  • Salary $62381.24 - $78964.18 annually (reflects the entire salary range). A starting salary higher than $62381.24 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
