Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School, part of the Science Academies of New York (SANY) Charter Schools, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Social Worker to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students in grades 5-7.

At SAS Middle School, we believe that students thrive when supported holistically. Our school social workers play a vital role in building strong relationships with students, families, and the community to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed in school and beyond.

What You’ll Do

As a School Social Worker, you will :

• Provide developmentally appropriate individual and group counseling for students with emotional, behavioral, or social challenges.
• Conduct age-appropriate observations and assessments to identify student and family needs and implement effective interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and outside agencies to support students' well-being and readiness to learn.
• Respond to crises and provide ongoing support for students and families.
• Promote a positive school climate by supporting social-emotional learning initiatives appropriate for early elementary students.
• Serve as a liaison between home, school, and community resources to ensure holistic support.
• Actively engage with families to strengthen the home-school connection and provide resources, education, and support.
• Participate in student support teams and contribute to IEP and 504 plan development and implementation for students requiring services.
