Job descriptionPlans, assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of trades helper subordinates on various shipboard repair projects. Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel. Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance. Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions. Investigate accidents and injuries,and prepare reports of findings. Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies. Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results. Prepares routine work and time reports and maintains standard records. Develops, implements, and evaluates maintenance policies and procedures. Examines objects, systems, or facilities, and analyzes information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs. Assists program and project teams with prospective work estimates and hours needed to complete the job including material procurement, quotes and duration of project. Conducts or arranges for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use. Performs related work as required. High School diploma or equivalent 5 years' related ship repair / structural work experience Ability to travel 5% -10% of the time Ability to communicate effectively, work independently or in a group. Ability to do basic math, ie. add, subtract, divide and multiply. Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Ability to obtain and maintain access to military and government installations and private shipyards. Shop environment, pier side and shipboard. Frequent standing, sitting, crawling, kneeling, stooping, crouching, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms. Regular communication (hearing / speaking). Occasional lifting up to 50+ pounds. Noise conditions range from very quiet to very noisy. Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up / down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts / yardarms (on board ships)
