We are seeking a Quality Control Engineer, Senior who will serve as a key technical leader within the Quality organization, responsible for ensuring compliance with internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and customer specifications. This role will lead quality planning, problem resolution, and continuous improvement activities across multiple programs or production areas. The Quality Control Engineer will collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain to drive proactive quality assurance, mitigate risk, and support delivery of defect-free products to our customers.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary quality engineering authority for assigned programs, providing leadership in quality planning, process control, and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain quality plans, inspection instructions, and control plans in alignment with AS9100 and customer-specific requirements.
Lead root cause and corrective action investigations (RCCA) using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, Fishbone, 5-Whys, etc.).
Ensure timely disposition and documentation of nonconformances, including coordination with customers and suppliers as required.
Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
Ensure that systems and tools used to track metrics and quality data are maintained.
Support and lead internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and corrective action follow-up.
Responsible for ensuring traceability of products and deliverables including development of data packs and First Article Inspections (FAIs)
Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure processes are robust, controlled, and capable.
Perform Supplier audits and source inspections, as necessary.
Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues, drive corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement.
Review and approve supplier documentation such as FAI, PPAP, and inspection plans.
Ensure product being received from suppliers meets the requirements built into the purchase order during receiving inspection.
Partner with program management and procurement to ensure the proper flow down of quality codes to suppliers.
Support supplier quality initiatives and collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure quality expectations are met.
Track and analyze key performance metrics (yield, defect trends, cost of quality) and drive data-based improvements.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other quality engineers, inspectors, and cross-functional teams.
Responsible for facilitating Material Review Board (MRB) Meetings to ensure proper disposition of Nonconformances.
Ensure nonconforming products are segregated and all Material Review Areas are properly maintained.
Champion a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and compliance throughout the organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality, or related technical field. In lieu of a degree, significant related experience will be considered.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in Quality Engineering within an AS9100 or ISO 9001 certified aerospace or defense environment.
Experience with IPC-620 and J-STD-001 standards related to cable harness and soldered electronic assemblies.
Strong understanding of AS9100 requirements, NADCAP, and industry standards (e.g., MIL, ASTM, ISO).
Proven experience in RCCA, process capability analysis, and quality risk management.
Experience with FAIRs, PPAP, or equivalent product verification processes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (GD&T proficiency required).
Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills.
Experience with special processes (welding, NDT, coatings, heat treat, etc.).
Hands-on experience with statistical process control (SPC) and MSA techniques.
Familiarity with ERP / MES and quality management systems (QT9, TIPQA, or similar).
Familiarity with Costpoint and reviewing Purchase Requisitions to ensure contractual compliance and traceability.
Physical Description
Employees in these positions will work in an assembly, manufacturing, and production environment, as well as in equipment assembly areas using technical and electronic testing equipment, including specialized software. They will collaborate with various personnel in a manufacturing or testing setting, attend meetings, contribute to team efforts, deliver timely results, produce reports, and communicate information effectively. Telework may be included.
In specialized laboratory or testing environments, employees will use electronic testing equipment, complex systems, and computer software. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, and lab coats may be required. Employees may be responsible for lifting, moving, testing, and assembling equipment of various weights and utilizing a variety of electronic testing tools.
