Job descriptionBooking and interviewing guests Partnering with the Executive Editor / Host in preparing for and conducting interviews Writing scripts and editing with Managing Editor and Executive Editor Working with the Sound Designer to produce and polish episode audio mixes Producing accompanying digital and newsletter content Collaborate with Tradeoffs’ audience team to maximize reach, engagement and impact (story titling, digital presentation, episode promotion, events, partnerships, and tracking impact) Occasional appearances on Tradeoffs’ podcast or as a guest on other media outlets Offer peer feedback on episodes led by other reporter / producers and contribute to editorial planning Collaborate with Tradeoffs colleagues on other projects as they arise At least 7 years of experience in journalism Knowledge and understanding of health care and health policy issues; experience in mental health, addiction, violence prevention or health equity is a plus Preferred experience in audio journalism, audio production and / or podcasting Demonstrated ability to report and tell stories that contextualize complex topics in clear, emotionally compelling ways Proven track record of producing high-quality content on deadline and managing competing priorities Experience collaborating with editors, producers and audience engagement teams Experience developing and cultivating sources across health policy and health care Experience tracking health topics / trends and vetting research and data Understanding of target audiences and ability to produce impactful content across platforms Knowledge of AP style Adherence to journalistic ethical standards Embraces Tradeoffs’ style of intellectual rigor, emotional resonance and accessibility Loves audio reporting and narrative podcasts Focus on audience needs and how their engagement informs work Detail-oriented with high standards for accuracy and integrity Strong editorial judgment Comfortable working in a small, remote, collaborative team Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines Openness to feedback and ability to take direction from multiple people Self-motivated, creative thinker and problem solver Strong communication skills as a listener, speaker and writer Ability to build trusted relationships with colleagues, sources and audiences Comfortable managing sources and editors within a rigorous editing process Requires sitting at a desk daily for multiple hours Repetitive motions involving wrists and hands Occasional field reporting and travel to conferences and events Remote work from home or self-selected location Digital communication, written and verbal

Responsibilities
- Track topics and trends and develop sources across the health care and health policy community
- Pitch, report and produce one to two 15-25 minute podcast episodes per month
- Write newsletter content and digital stories to complement podcast episodes
- Collaborate with the Managing Editor and Executive Editor on story ideas, development, research and reporting
