Overview
Calaveras County is seeking online applications and resumes from qualified individuals for our Engineering Manager. Under general direction, plan, direct, coordinate, schedule, review and evaluate the work of a section of the Public Works Department; review and analyze technical and engineering issues; and perform other duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Positions in this classification work directly for the Director of Public Works, and are typically responsible for managing a section in the Public Works Department. This classification is the first full supervisory and management level classification in the professional and technical engineering series. Incumbents supervise a staff of engineers, paraprofessional engineers, engineering aides, and other support staff. In addition to supervising the work of staff, incumbents perform the most difficult and complex engineering work, or serve as the technical expert in reviewing and analyzing engineering issues. Responsibilities
Knowledge of
Knowledge of : Supervisory principles and practices including work planning, scheduling, review, evaluation and employee training and discipline; principles and practices of civil engineering design and construction; principles and practices of administration and project management and evaluation; applicable codes, regulations, standards and safety practices; construction materials, methods and equipment; computer applications related to engineering work; engineering mathematics; principles and practices of land development; principles and practices of structural analysis; basic budgetary principles and practices.

Ability to : Plan, organize, coordinate and supervise the work of assigned staff; select, motivate and evaluate staff and provide for their training and professional development; review and analyze designs, specifications and plans; apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of highly complex civil engineering problems; organize work, set priorities and exercise independent judgment within policy guidelines; deal tactfully and effectively with the public, staff, other agencies, engineering firms, contractors, developers, manufacturers and others; prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, records and correspondence.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and three (3) years of lead or project management experience in public works design and construction engineering at a level equivalent to the County's classification of Associate Civil Engineer.
Possession of an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Valid registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (PE).
