Job Purpose : The Laboratory Technician I serves in our QC and R&D laboratories and conducts routine laboratory testing on raw materials and finished products following established test methods and standard operating procedures.  He or she may perform other laboratory testing or analysis as directed by and under the supervision of the Laboratory Operations Manager, or other senior technical staff. A high level of communication and time-management skills are required.

Duties / Responsibilities :

• Understands, complies with, and promotes safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures.
• Operates laboratory equipment, pilot plants, and instrumentation in accordance with standard test methods and operating procedures.
• Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple instruments and workflows simultaneously to maximize efficiency.
• Works safely with hydrocarbon and / or water-based products and potentially hazardous chemicals in a controlled laboratory setting.
• Maintains and documents laboratory records and results in compliance with quality management system and laboratory procedures.
• Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.
• Assists with instrument maintenance, calibration, and referencing as needed.
• Communicates test results to blending and manufacturing staff and calculates batch correction when appropriate and in consultation with the Lead Chemist.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in training and education opportunities as available.
• Understands and maintains compliance with standards, regulations and required disclosures.
