PRIMARY OBJECTIVE : To perform customer checkout transactions, handle refunds in an appropriate manner, answer customer questions and concerns, answer telephones appropriately and direct calls to the proper personnel. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.
NATURE AND SCOPE : Emphasis in this position is on following front-end checkout and service counter procedures in all transactions, maintaining positive customer relations and expedient processing of all orders. This position requires register / scanner operation, proper telephone etiquette, reading, light lifting, and standing. It also requires ongoing social skills, verbal interaction, judgment / decision making; the ability to work as part of a team, attention to detail, listening skills, initiative and the ability to work under pressure. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Daily assignments and work direction is provided by the Front-End Manager or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Ask for coupons and check for items on the bottom of the cart before beginning each customer’s order
Greet and thank all customers and provide prompt and courteous service
Answer the phone as timely as possible with a friendly positive tone
Properly count and enter cash into the register system
Verify information on checks and if acceptable, enter and properly utilize check verification system, properly tender checks into the register system
Assist the office personnel in giving breaks on a timely basis
Make sure groceries are bagged properly for each customer. Size up each customer and their order and bags appropriately
Keep all tenders locked in a secure location
Clean the service counter area
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting up to 50 lbs.
