Description
This is a responsible and technical entry level position with responsibilities relating to review and control of certain accounting activities of the department. This position reports to the Accounting Manager of Finance Department.
Examples of Duties
- Reviews and analyzes the activity of the accounting division, makes recommendations for a more efficient utilization of personnel and work flow
- Reconciles assigned accounts, including monthly review of account variances
- Prepares and reviews General Journal Entries, including imports generated from the general ledger system
- Develops and maintains various reports of fixed assets, payroll and general accounting for the annual audit based on assigned accountant's scope of work
- Prepares bank reconciliations monthly
- Assigned Accountant initiates and maintains reports monthly of Fixed Assets activity to analyze and record general ledger transactions, review activity and prepare reports for year-end closing, including depreciation and booking of developer contributions from engineering and CIP
- This Accountant compiles and prepares Note 4 of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
- Participates in the annual physical parts inventory and the year-end closing activity, including the recording of required general ledger transactions
- Prepare returns and reconcile sales / use tax, gross receipts tax, communication service tax, building surcharge and unemployment tax
- Tests, trains and maintains a working knowledge of the accounting software, Eden, including assisting in the Maintenance of accounting-related doc source codes
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business, accounting, finance or a related fieldWith two (2) years of work experience in accounting and a strong working knowledge of personal computersOR an equivalent combination of training and experienceMust possess and maintain a valid Florida Operator's Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (required for travel)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of accounting and budget principles in a governmental environment and their application to the operation of municipal affairsKnowledge of the principles and practices of accounting, purchasing, budgeting, statistical analysis, and report writingAbility to utilize personal computers and various software applications for analytical and data maintenance purposesAbility to carry out complex oral and written instructionsAbility to communicate both orally and in writing
