POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Development Officer works to maximize Martha O’Bryan Center’s potential gift and grant revenue through providing leadership to the organization in all aspects of professional fundraising and other advancement work. Success requires an annual raise of $3M to $5M to support community services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs and directs the implementation of a comprehensive advancement program for the Martha O’Bryan Center. This includes fundraising from private and public sources, events, marketing, proposal development, research, information, and systems for maintaining a robust advancement program.
  • Leads the organizations efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit support from key constituencies including individuals, corporations, foundations, government, and other sources.
  • Develops and achieves fundraising goals.
  • Develops and adheres to fund raising expense budget.
  • Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer in cultivating and soliciting major prospects.
  • Works with the VP of Communication and Marketing (also reports to CEO) on the creation of messages and appropriate communication tools, including websites and social media, to promote the Center’s priorities.
  • Collaborates with the grant management team in the research, cultivation and writing of grant to various public and private sources.
  • Collaborates with other leaders on the fundraising efforts of the MOBC charter schools and the Martha O’Bryan Foundation.
  • Communicates with the board of directors and board committees regarding development goals and projects.
  • Maintains a portfolio of key constituents to cultivate, solicit, and/or steward, including individuals, foundations, corporations, churches, and other institutions.
  • Provides leadership and direct supervision to Development staff, including interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing and resolving challenges.
  • Provides professional development leadership to staff striving for excellence in development services, including grant writing, cultivating and soliciting prospects and donors, prospect management systems, research, and stewardship.
  • Regularly updates and maintains knowledge and understanding of current trends, techniques, and regulations around philanthropy and resource development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in non-profit fund development and management, with a successful fund raising track record.
  • Three or more years of experience supervising a team, preferrable a fundraising and development team.

The above qualifications express the minimum standards of education and/or experience for this position. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may be taken into consideration.
