The City of Sacramento Community Development Department is seeking an Associate Civil Engineer for the Building Division, Plan Review Section. The candidate will work under general supervision with limited oversight to determine compliance with applicable codes, laws, and regulations for multiple complex projects and assignments.

Position
Assistant Civil Engineer / Associate Civil Engineer
To perform professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of projects in the areas of public works, transportation, hydraulics, and structural engineering.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Assistant Civil Engineer journey level class in the professional civil engineering series not requiring registration. Positions are flexibly staffed and typically advanced from the lower class of Junior Engineer. Responsibilities increase with experience and may be reassigned to the next higher class as registration is obtained.
Associate Civil Engineer full journey level class requiring registration. Works under general supervision and completes complex civil engineering assignments; greater independence and complexity than Assistant Civil Engineer.
Supervision
Direction is provided by a higher level professional engineer or division head. Responsibilities may include supervision of lower level professional engineers and technical personnel. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :
Experience
One year of experience in professional civil engineering work in one of the areas of assignments.
Education
A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major study in civil engineering. Or possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate. All education requirements must be verifiable.

Other Requirements
Probationary Period Employees must successfully complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.

2. Training and Experience Exam (Weighted 100%). The questions at the end of the application are the Training and Experience (T&E) Exam. Responses will be rated and scored to determine ranking.
3. Eligibility Candidates who pass will be placed on the eligible list for one year. Final decision will be made by the hiring department.
4. Screening Top ranks will have applications forwarded for review. Human Resources evaluates applications for minimum qualifications for those selected.
5. Conditional Hire Upon offer, candidates must complete Live Scan, and may need to pass medical, drug / alcohol tests, and hold any required licensure. Failure to meet prerequisites may withdraw the offer.
