Building Estimator - Vertical Construction

Position Overview

We are hiring several Estimators to support our Kiewit Building Group in the Vertical market. We are looking for individuals with a few years of estimating under their belt for engineering / construction projects, who are passionate about project planning, risk management and are focused on the details, that want to grow their career in estimating and preconstruction engineering. You will work with seasoned estimators, supporting various design / build estimates for projects around the East coast, for vertical buildings that include new construction, modifications or upgrades for various types of buildings including : government buildings, historical buildings, mixed-use / commercial, higher education, healthcare, sports facilities, large private healthcare, hotels, and high-rises.

District Overview

Kiewit Building Group specializes in vertical construction, we build office buildings, industrial complexes, education and sports facilities, hotels, hospitals, transportation terminals, government buildings, science and technology facilities, retail and special-use facilities, and extensive interior construction with tenant improvements. Our capabilities include all facets of construction and engineering including general contracting, construction management, design-build, design-assist and turn-key project development.

Location

You will be required to work in our Springfield, Virginia office.

Responsibilities

• Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
• Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
• Reviewing and assisting with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.
• Review bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
• Conduct site investigation prior to formulating a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
• Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigations and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
• Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator scope of experience; handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
• Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
• Become proficient in Kiewit's estimating program, "InEight Estimate".
• Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process.
• Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
• Consult with owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.

Compensation

Base Compensation : $94,767 - $120,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and / or location)
