The mission of the Children’s Museum Houston is to transform communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children in Greater Houston.
For more than four decades, Children's Museum Houston has supported student achievement, empowered parents, and ignited a life-long love of learning. We are consistently rated as one of the top children's museums in the nation. Our programming serves more than 900,000 participants annually at the Museum, at the Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, and at the 270+ outreach locations across Greater Houston. We welcome families with offerings that include 13 exhibits, a performing arts series, a full slate of cultural programming, science activities led by degreed educators, and weekly Free Family Nights.
Job Summary
Character Learning Performers will engage children and families in creative play and performance that foster character development and deliver meaningful educational experiences. Character Learning Performers utilize their background in education and effective theater for young audiences techniques to rehearse, practice, and perform mini-dramas and other performances and assist with the development and creation of theater programming focusing on character education.
Character Learning Performers are expected to maintain performance readiness including memorization of lines, movement, blocking, and music for performances. They will convey positive character traits and related educational content through performances and theatrical interactions with museum visitors in character before, during and after performances. Responsibilities also include ensuring an entertaining and enjoyable experience for Museum guests and representing the Museum in a professional and positive manner. Excellent interpersonal, planning, communication, and organizational skills needed. High school diploma required; Bachelor’s in theatre education or equivalent coursework preferred. Bilingual preferred. Average of 10 hours a week including evening and weekend hours Required. Flexibility of work hours and days required.

Physical Requirements :
Performers will need to run, dance, and walk up and down stairs both inside and outside in these performances. They will also be costumed in full body costumes including headgear. Candidates must be able to complete this requirement with or without reasonable accommodation.
