Description : JOB SUMMARY
A Swim Instructor is responsible for providing an educational, friendly, motivating experience for all members of the Minneapolis Club. The Swim Instructor will be responsible for swim lesson instruction for both youth and adult, and delivering aqua programs in the pool.
1. Club Member / Staff Relations

Maintain open channels of communication and be receptive to all departments and staff members.Write effectively and in a business fashion.Convey oral messages clearly and concisely.Provide solutions when appropriate.Ensure that the information needed to proficiently operate the club is disseminated and understood.3. Planning, Organization and Administration
Exhibit sound time management and organizational skills.Ensure the supplies needed to operate are properly stocked.Maintain an organized and clean work station that is member ready.4. Employment Policies / Safe Work Environment
Report all accidents to your supervisor immediately.Take pride in the club - report all damage or vandalism to club property.Report all safety hazards to your supervisor.Follow all club safety policies and procedures as outlined in the handbook.Follow all departmental rules.5.. Essential Job Functions
Demonstrate practical knowledge of swim instruction skills, aqua aerobics programming and stroke analysis.Provide safe and effective swim lessons for youth and adults with progression levels.Teach safe and effective adult aqua classes.Ensure consistent and thorough document retention of medical and / or special needs of clients.Demonstrate a high level of customer service with superior member readiness skills.Be consistently visible in the fitness center and pool area – making sure all members’ needs are met, and to offer water, towels, or advice when appropriate.Welcome all new and current members to the fitness department. Approach all new members and introduce yourself and address any issue they may have.Effective members’ name recognition by communicating with members, addressing them by name, and recalling past conversations when appropriate.Maintains a professional image by communicating well both verbally and non-verbally through positive eye contact, gestures, posture and dress; pitch and tone of voice are positive at all times; develop positive rapport with clients and handle issues and concerns in a tactful and appropriate manner.Lead by example by maintaining a healthy lifestyle image which reflects to members the importance fitness plays in ones personal life.Exhibit punctuality and preparedness for client sessionsArrives at least 15 minutes before every session;Is always prepared for each session, which includes : water bottles, heart rate monitors, etc.Completed billings, files reviewed and any applicable handouts ready for distribution.Remain flexible in scheduling (schedule individual clients requested times in advance).Assists with covering sessions whenever an emergency situation occurs which may include working a longer shift.Promptly bill and maintain accurate financial records completing all billing the same day services were provided.Works with fellow fitness staff to ensure that members’ goals are being achieved.Complete continuing education classes each calendar year.Complete all other related duties assigned by supervisor.Ability to support the fitness desk - welcoming all members to the fitness center, assisting members with their requests, answering phones, assisting Fitness Director, and all other duties that are required at the fitness desk.Deliver a positive “Experience” to all members and guests that come into the fitness department.Requirements : Job Qualifications
Current WSI Certification2 – 5 years’ experience coordinating and instructing aqua programs2 - 5 years’ experience instructing swim lessons for youth and adultsMaintains a CPR / AED certification.Extremely strong communication skills using spoken and written words.Personable with strong people skills.
