How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region : The Fare Collections Specialist safely transfers and secures passenger fares and statistical ridership data from all buses into garage fare collection equipment. Work is primarily performed in a garage setting where you will occasionally be required to work near moving parts or equipment as well as be frequently exposed to fumes, particles and loud noises. This position also requires you to lift up to forty-five (45) pounds on a frequent basis during an average eight-hour shift and occasionally push mobile equipment weighing up to 2,000 pounds.

Recruitment Type : This position is open to internal and external applicants.

This position will create a six-month eligible list for current and future open positions.

Note : This position will be a float position working between the five (5) garages with varying shifts between 7 : 15 am until 3 : 15 pm and 4 : 45 pm - 12 : 45 am. Additional scheduled details will be discussed during the interview process.

What you would do in this job

• Reads and records passenger statistics from all fare boxes using electrical probing device, ensuring proper pedestal (stand) door un-locking and re-locking procedures are followed.
• Removes fare collection cash box containers from fare box pedestal (stand) and replace with empty container; ensuring pedestal door is correctly and properly secured upon completion.
• Transfers passenger fares from buses into secured garage receiving equipment in a safe and effective manner.
• Inspects and reports wear, damage, vandalism and operating malfunctions of all fare collection equipment; performs basic preventive maintenance on fare collection equipment.
• Re-stocks TRIM (Ticket Reader / Issue Machine) units with magnetic encoded, blank transfer media.
• Directs buses to the proper parking bays using a schematic garage floor plan.
• Encode GoTo and other fare cards as directed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

High school diploma or GED.

License Requirements :

Current valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council, you must pass a drug test (safety sensitive positions only), and a background check which verifies education, employment, and criminal history. The Metropolitan Council considers felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a case-by-case basis, based on whether they are related to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.
