This position is essential in maintaining efficient clinic operations and patient flow. Clinical Assistants perform administrative duties, data management, and basic clinical tasks. This information is recorded in patient charts along with medical histories. This position works closely with providers, supporting them with tasks such as rooming patients and performing Point of Care Testing (POCT). Responsibilities include performing lab draws, providing immunizations and injections, and handling phone calls. This role requires processing provider orders, data entry, and participation in training processes. Must be able to make independent decisions within the scope of practice based on experience and good judgment. The position is responsible for leading Clinical Assistant I and Clinical Assistant II positions. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job : Accurately collect and document information in patient charts. Keep patient records in order with all forms properly identified. Ensure patient medication and immunization records are current. Recognize signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and act appropriately. Transport patients within the facility as needed. Demonstrate the ability to smoothly manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow. Report and, when appropriate, record any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients. Observe patients to ensure children, elderly, or impaired patients have someone in attendance. Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures. Prepare patients for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries. Provide specimen collection and assist with POCT. Follow protocol for collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens. Perform and assist with radiology exams per protocol if competencies are met. Assist providers as directed and trained, within the licensed scope of practice. Assist clinic nurses as needed. Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by the provider. May perform basic life support as certified. Assist providers in identifying patients overdue for immunizations and preventative health maintenance. Other Duties : Provide cross-coverage for peers, assisting clinics that need support. Attend and participate in area staff meetings, applying relevant information presented. Participate in unit goal setting and comply with scheduling guidelines. Initiate discussions with managers regarding departmental issues and concerns. Address un-resolved problems with patients or coworkers as per policy. Education and Experience Requirements : High school diploma or GED required. 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of clinic procedures for patient visits and related treatments is beneficial. Familiarity with medical terminology and basic life-saving procedures is preferred. Skills Required : Strong communication and customer service skills. Sufficient computer application skills to utilize medical database competently. Ability to operate medical equipment including blood pressure cuffs and pulse oximeters. Good interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to train on and use various EMR systems to accurately record patient data. Recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities : Employees are responsible for complying with safe work rules. Report all accidents and injuries immediately. Cooperate in all accident and injury investigations and report unsafe conditions. Physical Demands : Regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with arms. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May frequently lift and / or push / pull up to 25 lbs. May be required to lift patients as needed. Work Environment : The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The setting includes office and healthcare environments. Exposure to controlled temperature environments is to be expected. All procedures may involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
